Three Roads Into Bluebonnet Circle Are Closed Until March. The Work Stops at the Circle.

The last time Fort Worth brought heavy equipment to Bluebonnet Circle, the circle was the job. A TCU 360 report from December 2017 described the plan. Crews would replace the water lines under the circle, rebuild the street in concrete and paint the inside lane as parking for the businesses and for visitors to the park. In September 2018, Fort Worth Weekly reported that the overhaul was running late and kicking up dust, and that circle businesses were seeing less traffic and lost parking.

This fall's construction has a different shape. The city's two active projects near the circle both use it as a reference point. One says its work runs "from Bluebonnet Circle." The other draws its eastern boundary at the circle. As a result, three of the roads that lead in are shut through the holidays, while the ring itself and the shops on it are not on the city's closure list.

What the City Lists as Closed, and Until When

On the City of Fort Worth road closure listing for the week of October 9 to 16, three segments ending at the circle show as full closures from September 8, 2026, through March 8, 2027:

  • Park Ridge Boulevard, from South Hills Avenue up to Blue Bonnet Circle
  • Rogers Avenue, from Harwen Terrace up to Blue Bonnet Circle
  • West Biddison Street, from Harwen Terrace up to Blue Bonnet Circle

All three lead west or southwest from the circle. Nearby, the same listing shows sidewalk work on West Berry Street between Greene and Cockrell avenues scheduled through December 31, 2026. The city updates the page every week and says alternate routes "may be advised." It does not publish a detour map specific to the circle. Since dates can move, it makes sense to check the listing before a Saturday errand run.

From publication day, March 8 is about four and a half months away. That window covers Thanksgiving, the December gift-shopping weeks and the slow return in January.

Two Projects That Use the Circle as a Boundary

The closures sit where two separately funded city projects overlap. The listing doesn't say which contract each closure belongs to. Park Ridge falls within the scope of both. West Biddison Street, from Stadium Drive to the circle, is on the water project's list, and Rogers Avenue borders its sewer easements.

Bluebonnet & Carter Park Street Improvements Bluebonnet Hills and Westcliff Area Water and Sewer Improvements
Type Street and utility rehabilitation Replacement of cast iron water mains and sewer lines
Listed value $15.1 million $5,814,112.35
Funding 2022 Bond Water and Sewer Fund
Circle's role Park Ridge work begins at the circle Circle forms the project's eastern boundary
Park Ridge scope Bluebonnet Circle to Benbrook Boulevard From the circle, 960 feet southwest
Listed completion December 2027 August 2027

The street project is the larger one. Fort Worth City Council approved M&C 25-1098 on December 9, 2025. It awarded McClendon Construction Company a $13,991,869.25 contract for street paving, stormwater improvements and water and sanitary sewer main replacements, which the council record lists as 2022 Bond Year 3, Contract 19. The city's Transportation & Public Works Department held a public preconstruction meeting on WebEx on April 8, 2026.

Near the circle, the street project's Park Ridge segment is only one part of a larger list. The list also includes Benbrook Boulevard from Rogers Avenue to Granbury Road, Cockrell Avenue from Park Ridge to Benbrook, and a group of streets east of Evans Avenue in the Carter Park area. In its August 2026 update, the city said crews would next complete soil stabilization on Park Ridge between the circle and Benbrook Boulevard.

The water project addresses old pipe. Fort Worth Water has committed to replacing at least 20 miles of cast iron main every year. In this area that means Stadium Drive, Worth Hills Drive, Harwen Terrace, West Biddison Street and Park Ridge Boulevard. It also includes a sewer easement running about 925 feet northeast between Park Ridge Boulevard and Rogers Avenue, two of the streets now closed. The city says construction will affect both the Bluebonnet Hills and Westcliff neighborhood associations.

In 2018 the circle was torn up and its approaches were how people got around the work. In 2026 the circle is the finished piece and the approaches are being dug up.

What the 2018 Rebuild Left Behind

The 2018 project shaped the circle that drivers reach this fall. As TCU 360 reported, the plan turned the inside lane into painted parking. Angie Watts, then president of the Bluebonnet Place Neighborhood Association, estimated it would add 60 to 80 spaces. She told the student outlet the goal was a slower and more walkable circle:

"We want people to walk to the park safely."

The city's promise back then was that "residents and businesses will always have access to their properties." Owners on the circle worried at the time that construction would send regular drivers elsewhere, according to TCU 360 and an earlier Fort Worth Weekly story. This time, the concrete ring and its parking are the part of the street that is already finished.

Who Is Open on the Circle This Fall

The storefronts span three time slots: early morning errands, daytime browsing and evening plans. The hours below are what each business has posted, and posted hours can change.

The newest storefront opened into the closure. Bluebonnet Books & Wine opened in early September, as the closures were getting underway, according to the Star-Telegram. Owners Dana St. Germain and Robert Costas sell used books for $5 to $20. The Star-Telegram's October 8 story said beer and wine on tap would come once St. Germain obtained the alcohol license. Until then, Costas, whom the shop calls its "sommelier," was handing out free glasses of wine. St. Germain told the Star-Telegram she has met more neighbors from the Bluebonnet/TCU area since opening than ever before.

A Week on the Circle Between Now and March 8

The bookstore's weekly schedule, together with the evening hours at the studio and the pizza place, gives the circle something going on most days through the closure period:

  1. Tuesday through Friday evenings. The MixMatch runs workshops from 4 to 9 p.m., and Mellow Mushroom serves until 9.
  2. Thursday at 10 a.m. Ms. Sue leads toddler story time with crafts at Bluebonnet Books & Wine. Details go up on the shop's Instagram.
  3. Saturday. Customers pick up sourdough orders from Small Kitchen Sourdough at the bookstore. Circle Cleaners is open until 2 p.m., and The MixMatch runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  4. Any open day before the holidays. The bookstore's "this book made me think of you" program starts with a meeting with St. Germain about the gift recipient. She then puts together a package of 12 handpicked books.

The shop dog, Cleo, is there during store hours.

After March 8 the schedule is less clear. The city listing ends all three full closures that day. The larger street project, which runs to Benbrook Boulevard and the Carter Park streets, lists December 2027 as its completion date. For questions about a specific block, the city names Christian Cardona as the project contact, at 817-392-5498. More on the area's construction and openings is on our Colonial/TCU neighborhood page.

At John Zimmerman, we follow the projects reshaping the streets around TCU block by block, from Bluebonnet Circle to Berry Street. If you own a home near Park Ridge, Rogers or West Biddison and want to know how the 2027 schedule could affect your timing, Work With Us.
