"For years, customers have asked us when a new H‑E‑B would come closer to downtown Fort Worth," Stephen Butt, president of H‑E‑B Shareholder Relations, said on October 2. "With our new store on Chisholm Parkway, we can now say that day is soon."
In this case, soon means late 2028. That's the opening window H-E-B gave in its announcement. Construction is set to start early next year on more than 20 acres at the northeast corner of Chisholm Trail Parkway and Oakmont Boulevard. From today's date, that's roughly two years away. For anyone in Mira Vista who drives the parkway or runs errands along Oakmont, the more useful question is what fills those two years. The answer sits on the next parcel over. A luxury dealership campus has been under construction there, and it's due to open well before the grocery store.
The H-E-B announcement settles a question that has been open since January 2025. That month, the Fort Worth City Council annexed more than 152 acres near 6600 Oakmont Blvd., just east of Chisholm Trail Parkway, and zoned the land for intensive commercial use. The Fort Worth Report's coverage of the vote described about 108 acres of large-scale retail anchored by an "unnamed grocery store." According to the same report, zoning commissioners had already alluded to H-E-B in meetings, though the company hadn't announced a southwest Fort Worth store.
That March, Cassco described its plan as about 101 acres of offices, retail and apartments, and said it wanted a grocery store in the mix. Cassco is the development arm of the Edwards family, which has owned Edwards Ranch since 1848. Since 1956 the company has built Clearfork, Riverhills, Overton Park and Tanglewood. The October announcement puts the store inside a 250-acre community called Overland.
Three acreage figures have appeared in public filings and announcements: 146 acres in Cassco's September 2024 annexation request, 152 acres in the January 2025 council approval, and 250 acres for Overland now. They describe overlapping but different scopes, and the published reporting doesn't map the boundaries between them. So the size of the eventual development is still an open question. The grocer's name no longer is.
H-E-B has said very little about the building itself. Its announcement promises a store that will "reflect the unique character of the surrounding community" and says plans "are still being developed." The company hasn't released square footage, a format, a feature list or a street number. The Fort Worth Business Journal reported that the purchase price wasn't disclosed.
The Fort Worth Report's October 2 story adds some context. H-E-B also owns land in the Shops at Chisholm Trail Ranch farther south, and the company says it often buys large parcels for its stores and sells off smaller tracts for other development. A 20-acre grocery site inside a 250-acre master plan follows that pattern, and Cassco is likely to market the remaining Overland parcels around H-E-B once the store is under construction.
Here are the dates published so far for the Oakmont and Chisholm Trail corner, in the order things are scheduled to happen:
| Date | What | Status |
|---|---|---|
| January 14, 2025 | City Council annexes and zones the 152-acre Oakmont tract | Done |
| October 2, 2026 | H-E-B announces its land purchase in Overland | Done |
| December 1, 2026 | Autobahn detail building construction start, per state filing | Filed date |
| Early 2027 | H-E-B construction start | Announced |
| Spring 2027 | Autobahn campus opening target | Last public target |
| September 11, 2027 | BMW and Volkswagen dealership buildings completion, per state filing | Filed date |
| April 1, 2028 | Autobahn detail building completion, per state filing | Filed date |
| Late 2028 | H-E-B opening | Announced |
The "filed date" rows come from project registrations with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. They record what the builders entered, not confirmed progress on site. Even so, they suggest the dealership campus will still be finishing buildings after its spring 2027 target, and it will be operating at the corner well before the grocery store opens.
Autobahn Fort Worth, a 45-year-old dealership, currently sits at 3000 White Settlement Road near University Drive. In March 2025 its president, Brendan Harrington, told the Fort Worth Report that the dealership was cramped and "under the gun as there are developments planned where we are now." Its new site is nearly 75 acres on Cassco land at Oakmont Boulevard. The dealership's sales and service operation will move there, and Autobahn expects to keep a service center at or near the current location. The Frank Kent Cadillac dealerships Autobahn bought in October 2025 aren't part of the move. Autobahn says they will stay where they are.
The opening date has moved more than once. In March 2025 the target was December 2026. Autobahn's July 2025 groundbreaking post said the company was "aiming to open our doors in fall 2026." Its October 2025 announcement changed that to "an anticipated opening in Spring 2027." The Fort Worth Report still described the campus as under construction in its October 2, 2026 H-E-B story. No newer target has been published.
The planned campus doesn't look like a typical row of showrooms. In the 2025 plans described by the Fort Worth Report:
Several of those features sound like neighborhood amenities, such as the paths, the dog park, the pickleball courts and the restaurant. No published source says whether people who aren't customers will be able to use them, and the restaurant hasn't been named. For now, they're best treated as advertised plans for a private dealership campus.
For the next two years, grocery shopping near Mira Vista works the way it does now. The closest supermarket on the Oakmont corridor is the Albertsons at 7400 Oakmont Blvd., at Bryant Irvin. There's also a Walmart Supercenter farther along Oakmont at 6300 Oakmont Blvd. and a Costco at 5300 Overton Ridge Blvd. The specialty stores are clustered to the north and east:
H-E-B already operates its specialty brand in Fort Worth. The Central Market on West Freeway has been open since 2001. The Overland store will bring the H-E-B name itself to the southwest side for the first time. Before this announcement, the company's Fort Worth activity was concentrated in the far north, where the city's first H-E-B opened at 451 Heritage Trace Parkway, and in the Walsh development out west.
For Mira Vista, the most direct preview of what the Edwards family builds is Clearfork, a few miles north along the same ranch. Cassco developed it, and its plaza is where the fall and holiday calendar happens. If you're already shopping and dining more around Clearfork, there are two dates this season:
Both events are on land the same family has been developing for decades. Overland at Oakmont and Chisholm Trail is the next piece, and so far its only confirmed parts are a dealership campus due in 2027 and a grocery store due in late 2028. Our earlier post on the interchange Mira Vista uses every day covers the traffic side of the parkway.
